Mrs. Berry's 7th Grade Social Studies students made leaves representing the 9/11 Survivor Tree. The original tree was growing in the World Trade Center Plaza prior to 9/11. After the attacks it was covered with debris but discovered to still be alive. It was brought to NYC Parks & Recreation and nursed back to health for 10 years. It was returned to the 9/11 memorial site in 2010. It is the only living object that made it back to the site alive. It is an inspiration to many.

Last week in STEM...Kindergarten cut vegetables for stone soup, 2nd grade made shadow drawings, 4th Grade learned about electricity with snap circuits,, 6th grade built earthquake buildings and 7th grade designed legos.

In Mrs. Berry's Junior High Social Studies class, 7th graders learned how to properly fold an American Flag.

In recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day on Thursday, Sept 10th, we will have a "You Matter Day" on Thursday. Please send your students to school in purple and/or teal if you can! We will use this day here at Smithton Elementary to emphasize the importance of each student as a valued member of our school community.

This week in STEM...1st grade experimented with pushes & pulls on the playground, 2nd grade experienced sound with percussion instruments and 3rd grade made paper hats.

Pre-K, Kinder & 1st Grade: 5:30-6:30pm
2nd-8th Grade: 6:00-7:00pm

🚌 Bus drivers will be in the cafeteria to answer transportation questions.
