April 23, 2024: The Smithton School Talent Show is this Thursday, April 25th. All students will watch the talent show at 1:15. Families are invited to watch the talent show at 6:30 pm on Thursday. Along with the Moon Pies, Sunny D, and going outside to witness the eclipse, we will have four trivia questions throughout the day. I will read the trivia question twice. April 2, 2024: Congratulations to the girls volleyball team! Smithton Girls VB defeated St. Clare O'Fallon (25-18, 25-19) and Goreville (25-7, 25-20) to advance to the State Final. The Cougars lost to All Saints Academy (25-10, 25-20) bringing home second place in State. Congratulations to the team on their excellent season! The Smithton School Student of the Month for the month of April is Madison Spinner. Madison will receive a plaque and gift card. Congratulations, Madison! Thank you and have a great day!

March 22, 2024: Character Council is hosting a Mother/Son Hoedown tonight. This event is open to all PreK - 5th grade boys and their mothers. The Hoedown begins at 6 pm in the gym tonight. Tom participated in the State Wrestling Tournament this weekend and took first place! Tom is the IKWF Banton State Champion! Congratulations to the girls bowling team on placing 3rd at State! Three of our bowlers were top 15 finishers! Kendall Johnston placed 4th. The opening ceremony will begin at 9:30am. The Freeburg High School band will perform for us today at 1:30 in the gym. All grade levels are welcome to enjoy this performance. We will begin calling classes down at 1:20 today.  The Character Council will host a donut day on Monday, March 18th. Donuts are $1 each and will be for sale in the main lobby starting at 7:30 am on Monday. February 15, 2024: We are up to $2,158 collected for our Kids Heart Challenge event!  Make sure you get registered online.  If you raise $100 or more, you will get to silly string on of the following teachers: Mrs. Brueggemann, Mrs. Lucash, Ms. Dobey, Mrs. Rank, Mrs. Kapp, Mrs. Kueker, Mr. Sehr, Mrs. Liszewski, or Mrs. Servos.  If you raise $150 or more you will get to silly string one of the teachers just announced AND Ms. Hammel. Character Council will be selling donuts in the lobby on the morning of Tuesday February 20th. Donuts will be $1 each. Spring Picture Day is one week away. Teddy Fisgaga was nominated by Ms. Keen.  Teddy took it upon himself to help a student who was struggling. He didn't just give her the answers, instead he actually helped her comprehend the answers and explained why. He is always going out of the way to do things for me (his teacher) and takes responsibility in helping clean up the classroom even if it is not his own mess. Great job Teddy! Macklin O’Sullivan and Abigail Knake were nominated by Andie Lang for cleaning up trash in the cafeteria. They showed responsibility by cleaning up a mess that was not theirs. The girls team placed 7th overall out of 19 scoring teams and was led by 2 individual medalists. Madison Marshall placed 2nd out of 129 runners and Brynn Kisro placed 18th! The boys team brought home a 9th place finish out of 18 teams. The 2 medalists from the boys team were Mikey Finder placing 13th and Kyan Rensing placing 22nd out of 130 runners.  Overall, a very successful day for th Smithton Cougars Cross Country team! The October student of the month is Lillian Skaer! Lillian will receive a plaque and Waltons gift card. Waylon has shown respect all day! He has turned off his voice every time I have asked. He has set a good example to his classmates on how to be respectful. Camden Carlton was nominated by Mrs. Rank.  After lunch, there were several students leaving the caferteria and were loud in the hallway going out to recess.  Camden walked down the hallway giving everyone the quiet signal while others were talking. Camden showed great respect for everyone who was learning in the nearby classrooms and the adults who asked the students to be quiet in the hallway.  Way to go Camden for setting a great example for everyone to follow.  Thank you and have a great day!
