May 25, 2023: 6th and 7th grade band students, please go to Mr. Provost’s room this morning after announcements. Just a reminder that tomorrow is the last day of school and is an early release day. Bryson Rensing was nominated by Mrs. Barschak.  Bryson really impressed me this week.  He handled a situation very well in class.  He was respectful, calm, and hardworking even when it was challenging to do so.  Yesterday, on our field trip I saw him picking up trash that fell out of a trashcan.  He represented Smithton School very well.  Way to go, Bryson! Brock Jones, Kendall Johnston, Brady Mills and Gabe Lust was Mrs. Michelle Smith.  These students were kind enough to help me carry boxes to my car. May 22, 2023: Congratulations to the 2022-2023 Smithton Cougar Concert Band students who earned a rating of “excellent” Saturday at the 2023 Music in the Parks competition at Six Flags, St. Louis! Please congratulate a 7th or 8th grade band member sometime this week if you see them!  8th grade graduation is tonight in the gym at 7pm. The doors will open at 6. Graduates should arrive at 6:30. May 18, 2023: All track uniforms need to be turned in to Ms. Forsyth by tomorrow, or a fee will be charged to your account. All student council members need go to Ms. Forsyth’s room tomorrow. She has always helped me when I needed help. She has also been such an amazing friend. She is also so nice to others and always helps people when they don't understand. Jacob Lowery and Ava Deese were nominated by Mrs. Runyon.  Jacob and Ava jumped in during study hall to help me begin to pack up my books.   They worked together and organized them into the correct boxes and were finished in no time.  Packing up is NOT my favorite thing to do and I appreciate their willingness to help. Rebekah Kreighbaum and Madelyn Manning were nominated by Mrs. Runyon.  These two took their time this morning to help me as I was going up and down a step stool and looking for names for 3 classes.  They helped me put coat of arms with the correct names and helped cut out those not finished.  They could have been visiting with friends but offered to help me instead.  I love Smithton students! May 11, 2023: We continue to show appreciation for our amazing teachers and staff this week! Hot Mess Express is in the main parking lot this morning for teachers and staff as we continue to celebrate Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. During Field Day yesterday there was some trash on the ground that I pointed out periodically throughout the day. Many people passed it by saying that it wasn't theirs. These kids went out of their way to pick up the trash and put it in the trashcan. I really appreciate them taking care of our school property. May 4, 2023: Good luck to the 5th through 8th graders as they travel to Freeburg today to compete in Rotary Field Day! They will leave after attendance today. We will dismiss by grade level starting with 8th grade. You will load the buses through the cafeteria doors. Go Cougars!  Kindergarten through 4th grade will participate in the PTO field day today. Thank you to the PTO and all the volunteers that make this happen. The gaga pit is set up for field day.  The gaga pit will be used for field day.  It is off limits until students are instructed on the correct way to play and we go over gaga pit safety.  Congratulations to Isabella Springborn, Christian Blackwood, and Rebekah Kreigbaum on their 4th place finish in the Algebra competition yesterday. April 19, 2023: Congratulations to the track team on a great meet yesterday. Nor Aine Somosa broke the school record in triple jump with a jump of 31.1. The talent show is today! The students will perform for the school at 8:30 this morning. We will begin calling classes to the gym at 8:15.  The students will perform again tonight at 6:30. April 18, 2023: Good luck to the track team as they compete in Waterloo today. The bus leaves at 3pm. Please dismiss the track team at 2:45 today. Art club will meet today after school until 4pm. The talent show is tomorrow. The students will perform tomorrow morning at 8:30 am for all students and tomorrow evening at 6:30 pm for friends and family. Rory Brueggemann was nominated by Mrs. Morgason.  In PE, Rory does an excellent job working with a student who needs extra help assistance. Bryley Jones was nominated by Mrs. Carter.  Bryley is always helping out around the art room. She has been helping a student who has been absent get caught up on all of her work. She never complains or causes any problems, but instead is eager to help wherever help is needed. Keep having amazing character Bryley! March 29, 2023: Tyler Poirot and Brylie Bird will be honored tonight at an awards ceremony at Powell Symphony Hall for their Picture the Music artwork. Their artwork was selected as part of the top 100 winners for the St. Louis area. This Friday is a hat day! For a $1 donation to the NJHS, you may wear your favorite hat to school this Friday. They will be honored at an awards ceremony in March at the Powell Symphony Hall. During a game in PE, both girls switched to a team with less players when no one else would switch after I asked.  Thank you for doing the right thing! January 5, 2023: Congratulations to the boys basketball teams on their wins last night against Germantown! Good luck to them as they compete against Albers at home tonight. She grabbed the broom on her own and swept up our classroom! I appreciate Emma's kindness and her willingness to help keep our classroom looking clean. Jake Greive was nominated by Holly Sliment. Jake noticed that the student sitting next to him was on the wrong page during reading. He quickly helped the student find the correct page so he wouldn't be lost during the lesson. Congratulations to the girls basketball team on their wins against Albers last night. October 19, 2022: Congratulations to the girls basketball team on their win against Millstadt last night. The Boys basketball B team also defeated Red Bud Lutheran last night in the first round of the Prairie DuRocher Tournament. Way to go Cougars! She saw a classmate who was struggling with paper mache and she jumped in to help him finish his project without anyone asking her to. Adalynn Wester was nominated by Mrs. Sliment.  Adalynn noticed that one of her classmates was having trouble finishing an activity in class. She volunteered to help her by cutting and gluing some of the pieces for her. This helped the other student stay caught up. I was so proud of Adalynn for stepping up to help. Wren Waeckerle was nominated by Mrs. Sliment.  Wren noticed that a student in our class was having trouble finding a specific book in the library. Wren offered to help find the book for her classmate. Wren is always showing such helpful behaviors in class. Jacob Lowery was nominated by Mrs. Forsyth.  I am nominating Jacob because he found Class Cash in his desk, and instead of keeping it (which he could have easily done), he turned it in to me. I am proud of Jacob for choosing to do the right thing! :) Brylee Krieg, Jaiden Pierre, Albie Parker, Ruthie Wamser, Liam O'Neill were nominated by Mr. Provost.  They been taking time out of their day to help another student learn how to play their recorder by breaking things down and helping them when they were struggling. Bennett Brede was nominated by Mr. Provost.  Bennett has been setting a great example of respect, focus, and respect in music class the past few days. He is always ready to participate and work hard! Great job, Bennett! Brooklyn Crawley was nominated by Mrs. Stuhlstaz.  Brooklyn is always ready to learn. She is helpful to others and an overall great role model for others. Harrison Howard was nominated by Mrs. Walls.  Harrison is such a sweet friend.  Yesterday the leader of the day was out sick and Harrison agreed to switch leader days with his friend so that she didn't miss out on being the leader when she returned to school.  Harrison has such a big heart and is always there to help his friends. Megan Ludgate, the cheer coach, would like to give a kindness shout out to Alexis Kocka for picking trash up in the bleachers and the gym yesterday during the basketball game. Bennett Brede was also nominated by Mrs. Lance.  Bennett has been an outstanding student these last couple days. He's been making GREAT choices and helping to encourage his classmates to make better choices when they are not making good ones. October 18, 2022: Our October word of the month is Responsibility.  Responsibility means being accountable for your actions and making good decisions. Each one of us is responsible for what we do and what we say in our school building. Acting with responsibility in our school should include keeping your promises, taking care of your belongings, making good decisions, and being someone who is dependable.  As you go through your day, remember to act responsibly. What will you do to show that you are a responsible student? October 5, 2022: Congratulations to the baseball team on their win in the second round of the state tournament yesterday. The baseball team will play for the championship tomorrow at 3 pm. The softball team will play for 3rd place tomorrow at 1 pm. There will be a fan bus traveling to the baseball game. The bus will leave at 1:45 tomorrow. There are permission slips in the office. The cost is $5 to ride the fan bus. We will take the first 60 kids that return their permission slip. Today is picture retake day. Ms. Hedrick will go to every classroom to get students that need their picture retaken. Demi Hopkins would like to nominate Brynn Kisro for a Positive Referral because she is always a really kind, nice person and always there for her friends when they need her. The other student really enjoyed this extra attention from her peer. Carson Duensing was also nominated by Mrs. J Smith.  Carson has gone above and beyond on completing his regular homework plus extra practice in IXL and reading logs. He always gives 110% in his classes and wants to be his best self.

Mrs. Beggs would like to recognize Mrs. Barschak for her hard work and dedication to the students here at Smithton School.  Mrs. Barschak found a spelling website that she shared with the 2nd grade team.  Since using this site my students have drastically improved their spelling. He always lets me use his chromebook charger when I need it. He is definitely a good person.   Carli King was nominated by Mrs. Lynch.  Carli held the door for me when I was bringing things in and out of the building after school on Tuesday. Ryan Kroneig was nominated by Mrs. LaFrence.  Ryan is a great leader in our school. He is always motivating his peers to do the right thing. Thomas Reiss was nominated by Mr. Provost.  When a student in class was having a rough day, Thomas let the student go ahead of him in line so he could be in the front of the class. This brightened the students day and was a great example of kindness! Way to go Thomas. Paisley Brough was nominated by Mrs. Gerberding.  Paisley is always following directions quickly in class.  As soon as I give a direction, Paisley is up following that direction as quick as she can.  She gives her best effort every day and is always helpful to others.  I am proud to have Paisley in my class. Malary Larsen was also nominated by Mrs. Gerberding.  Malary is one of the kindest students in class.  She always uses her manners, even with small things like be handed a paper.  She's constantly looking for ways to make our classroom a better place whether it's helping me or one of her classmates.  I am grateful for Malary always setting a wonderful example for others. He stopped and offered to help this student so she wouldn't get behind. This really showed kindness and how much Jaxon helps and care about others. Mrs. J Smith was nominated by Mrs. Runyon.  I was a bit upset when I went to make a few copies for my students but found the copier jammed.  I needed the papers immediately since students were waiting.  I needed to get back to my students.  Mrs. J. Smith offered her personal time to make copies elsewhere for me so that I could return to class.  She then delivered them to my room. Mrs. M Smith was nominated by Braelynn Hofmeister.  She always helps no matter if its easy or hard. She let me stay 30 minutes after school to help me get the homework done because I didn't understand it. she is always kind to all her students and goes out of her way to help kids.

Murray Wamser was nominated by Mrs. Brueggmann.  Murray has been such a kind friend to everyone in our class.  He is always willing to help a friend or myself out with anything.  Murray demonstrates great behavior in the hallway, cafeteria, classroom, and playground. I am so proud to have him as a part of my class. Malary Larsen was nominated by Ms. Hammel.  Malary was very helpful to a student who had missed the first couple of PE classes.  She took it upon herself to explain the activities and even allowed her to follow her during the activity! Madelyn Manning Ms. Hammel. Ms. Hammel is always cheery, and has SO much patience with us, even if, sometimes, we don't really deserve it. She is always funny and encourages us to try our hardest, be a good human, be kind, and to be fair to ourselves and others. She is always in a good mood, no matter how the last class acted and is honest with us. One of my favorite quotes from her is, "If you wouldn't treat yourself that way, why treat others that way?" 2018. I've always tried to remember that quote. Thank you Ms. Hammel!!

August 30, 2022: Any 7th or 8th grader interested in joining the art club should sign up outside the office by Friday, September 2.  Cheerleading tryouts will be held on September 14th. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders that are interested in trying out for the cheer team should sign up outside of the office by Friday, September 9th.  Good luck to the baseball and softball B teams as they compete against Columbia at home today. Lillienne Meek was nominated by Mrs. Lafrence.  Lillienne was a very helpful friend when transitioning to another class by grabbing her classmates Chromebook and having it waiting for her in line while her classmate was putting away tools in the classroom. Tucker Frawley was nominated by Mrs. Runyon.  We were discussing layers of the Earth in Science and I gave the example of the lithosphere floating on the asthenosphere being like dirt cake with the rigid layer floating on the softer layer.  Tucker brought in enough of my "example" to share with the class. :) Kellen Schafer and Mason O'Sullivan were nominated by Mrs. Lafrence.  Mason and Kellen helped their classmates locate their lunch cards before the class went down to the lunchroom. Donna Howie was nominated by Mrs. Barschak.  Last year Donna gave me a beautiful spider plant.   It is in my classroom and doing well.  We got to talking last week about it sprouting baby plants.  I told her if it did, I'd probably draw a name from my class and let a student take it home.  A couple of days later she brought in boxes full of small plants all potted in cute little pots.  Donna always goes above and beyond!  We are very lucky to have her here at Smithton School! Mr. Ray and Chris were nominated by some 5th grade students.  They wanted to say thank you for always helping in the cafeteria..

Colten Hopkins was Nominated by Mrs. Kueker.  When another student's water bottle spilled, Colten sprung into action to help clean it up without being asked.  Thank you for your kindness Colten! Matthew Owen was nominated by Mrs. Rank.  Matthew has shown kindness to his classmates this week.  He went out of his way to help a student with their Chromebook ang getting their supplies out.  Thanks for setting an example for others! Anna Clark was nominated by Mrs. Rank.  Anna was caught doing a few kind deeds this week.  She saw a classmate's water bottle spilling on the floor and helped clean it up.  She also helped another classmate pick up their crayons when the box broke.  Anna always goes out of her way to help others! Colten Tampow was nominated by Mrs. Carter.  Colton is such a great kid! The art room is a constant revolving door of students throughout the day and Colton is always helping others get their messes cleaned up and the artroom ready for the next class. He's also a really amazing artist! Bella Springborn was nominated by Mrs. Smith.  We were shorthanded Friday morning for the Bus stop entrance of Hat Day and Bella so kindly gave up her morning to help out. She is always going above and beyond to be kind and helpful! Thank you so much Bella!

Mr. Sehr's 5th Grade Class was nominated by Mr. Provost.  Mr. Sehr's 5th grade class were AWESOME role models for the second graders on how to behave in the hallway while walking to class! Way to go! Meredith Marshall was nominated by Mr. Provost.  Meredith invited a student who was without a group to work with her and another person during group work in music class. Meredith showed compassion and worked to include everyone who needed a partner! Wyatt Aldridge was nominated by Ms. Andie on the playground.  Wyatt helped a friend who fell on the playground.  Thank you Wyatt for being such a good friend! Ray Lauer was nominated by Mrs. Runyon.  Ray is always responsive to all staff needs.  It may seem like a small thing, but when he knows someone needs something, he does whatever he can to get it to us as quickly as possible.  I needed one more student chair and not only did he get it to me - but he first checked what I have in my classroom to be sure it was the correct size for my students. Ellie Stehl was nominated by Mrs. Lynch.  She helped clean up after STEM class. And now it's time for our Friday Funny.  I have the honor of telling the first joke with the help of Murray and Faye. What does a cloud wear under his raincoat?  I don’t know Mrs. Belosi what does a cloud wear under his raincoat? Thunderwear.

Riley Gaubatz was nominated by Mrs. Stuhlstaz.  Riley noticed at the end of the day that a few of his classmates forgot to stack their chairs and clean around their desks. He went around the classroom making sure it was clean and all the chairs were stacked to end the day. Thanks for your extra care, Riley! You rock! I would like to nominate Felix Blackwood.  I saw Felix in the hallway helping two friends without even being asked to help.  Thank you for being such a good friend!

Raegan Gaubatz was nominated by Mrs. LaFrence.  She found a missing water bottle for a student and returned it to him. Sheridan Gilbreth was nominated by Mrs. LaFrence, as well.  She helps keep our classroom tidy and organized by helping friends push in their seats. Ms. Hammels 6th Grade "A" Day students were nominated by Mrs. Geoppo. She was walking through the gym while the class was playing a game today and a student had just scored for his team and both teams were cheering.  The students were so kind to each other. Ms. Hammel was nominated by Ms. Hedrick.  Ms. Hammel stayed after school to help distribute yearbooks with me! She made my job MUCH easier. It's nice when someone uses their personal time to help you out!

Faye Parker was nominated by Ms. Courtney.  Someone's water bottle spilled in the café this morning. While everyone else walked by Faye stopped to help by running and getting paper towels. Also, by making sure all of the ice was cleaned up. Lauryn Winter was nominated by Mrs. Stuhlstaz. Lauryn came in to school today with a smile and ready to work hard! She was kind in helping two kindergarten students make it to the office when they were lost. She has been going above and beyond finishing her work and helping others. I am so proud of her! Kennedy Allen was nominated by Ms. Hedrick.  Kennedy saw that someone was sitting by himself (while we were in the cafeteria for the cafeteria bootcamp) and asked them to join her group/table. She made a point to make someone feel included! Tori Flake was nominated by Mrs. Sliment.  Tori has shown kindness to her classmates and teachers from the very first day of school. She is always trying to help others, and today offered to help a student clean up a spill. Tori is always trying to make others feel better and uses her kindness to make everyone around her feel good. Andy Shaeffer was nominated by Mr. Provost.  Andy dropped his water bottle in the hallway and it spilled. He immediately went to the bathroom to get paper towels and began cleaning up his mess. Andy did a great job taking responsibility to clean up the spill and keep our school looking beautiful. Bella Springborn was nominated by Mrs. Berry. Bella is such a kindhearted person.  On Meet the Teacher night, she brought all her teachers cookies and a brand new pack of Expo markers.  That was such a sweet and thoughtful thing to do. Ms. Hedrick was nominated by Mrs. Berry.  Ms. Hedrick is always such a helpful teacher.  You are an AMAZING leader in the Junior High Hallway.  I appreciate all of her help that she offers to her coworkers and students.  Plus she rocks at teaching Science.

August 19, 2022: Good luck to the softball and baseball teams as they travel to Millstadt today. The games begin at 4:15.  The softball and baseball B teams have double headers in Freeburg tomorrow at 10 am. Go Cougars! A blue locker shelf was left on bus 111 this morning. Please pick it up in the office if it yours. 

August 18, 2022: Cougar Boot Camp is today! Everyone will go to the gym for the boot camp kick off at 8:35. We will start calling classes to the gym starting at 8:20. All National Junior Honor Society members need to check their email!

August 17, 2022: Baseball, softball, and cross country students staying after school will report to Mr. Halterman and Mrs. Rogers classrooms after dismissal.
