November 14, 2023: The CWV Post Auxiliary would like to announce the winners of their Veteran's Day Poster and Card Contest! For grades Kindergarten through second grade, Aralynn Burch came in 4th place and Jackson Stehl placed 3rd. For grades 6th - 8th, Haley Helfrich placed 5th, Bryana Spalding placed 4th, Kiley Watts placed 3rd, Nola Beasley placed 2nd and Wyatt Hubbard took first place! Congratulations to you all! Good luck to the boys basketball team as they compete in the Summersville Shoot Out this weekend. Those who are trying out for Scholar Bowl - please remember try-outs are in Mrs. Ruyon's room on MONDAY at either 7:20 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. whichever works best for you. You will need your chromebook. We are serving our veterans breakfast beginning at 8:15 this morning. If you have a veteran coming for breakfast, you are welcome to join them in the cafeteria. We will call for all students joining a veteran for breakfast at 8:15. The Veteran’s Day assembly is today at 9 am in the gym. All students will attend this assembly. I would like to nominate Emmalyn for this month. She is always so kind and helpful in the classroom. I am very thankful that Emmalyn sets a great example for her classmates to follow. Last Friday, she went above and beyond and cleaned the entire classroom without being asked. Way to go!

You will receive a plaque and gift card and your picture will go in the paper. Please report to the office after announcements. The new character word of the month is gratitude. Gratitude is choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives. What are some small, specific things that you are Grateful for? Maybe it is your favorite water bottle, the way the cat sleeps on the chair, or when your grandma bakes cookies. Spend some time thinking of at least 10 small things that you have Gratitude for and then choose to notice them this week with a smile. Thank you and have a great day.

Sign up if you are interested! Those who signed up for Scholar Bowl should get a letter from Mrs. Runyon about Try-outs. They should go to her room right after announcements. The Halloween parade will begin at 1:30 today. We will call classes to the playground when it is time to go out. Please be sure that you are ordering and taking the correct lunch everyday. The kitchen only makes the amount of food that is ordered in the morning. If you take something that you did not order, you are taking someone else's food! We do have have a positive office referral. Payten Murphy from Mrs. Ranks class was nominated by Mr. Mirly. Payten helped clean up the bleachers after the girls basketball game. Students should stay in the gym during the game, unless purchasing something from the concession stand. -Students should not be hanging out in the hallway by the bathrooms. -You are allowed to have food and drinks in the gym. Please make sure you throw away your trash and if there is a spill please notify the administrator at the game or the concession stand. -Be enthusiastic and loud in your support for the Smithton Cougars, but avoid using offensive language or engaging in disrespectful chants or behavior toward the opposing team. The goal is to create a fun and supportive atmosphere for your team and fellow fans while showing respect for the game and everyone involved. Cross Country athletes should turn their uniform into the office by tomorrow. Congratulations to the girls basketball team on their win last night. Good luck to them as they compete for third place in the Breese Tournament. The next tech club meeting will be Monday, Oct 23 after school in the STEM room. Teddy took it upon himself to help a student who was struggling. He didn't just give her the answers, instead he actually helped her comprehend the answers and explained why. He is always going out of the way to do things for me (his teacher) and takes responsibility in helping clean up the classroom even if it is not his own mess. Great job Teddy! The boys team brought home a 9th place finish out of 18 teams. The 2 medalists from the boys team were Mikey Finder placing 13th and Kyan Rensing placing 22nd out of 130 runners. Ty has been so helpful to his classmates during these first few days-he is always the first to help someone with cleaning or finding what they need. He almost always has his listening ears on and has been kind to those who are having a hard time. Autumn Russell was nominate by Ms. Keen. Autumn has shown respect for her classmates by being kind and polite since the first day of school. Autumn is always on time and is prepared immediately when we transition to another subject. August 17, 2023: 7th and 8th-grade NJHS students need to check their Google Classroom to sign up to work Hat Days and PTO Babysitting opportunities. The word of the month for August is respect. Our positive office referrals will relate to the word of the month. Only staff members can nominate students for positive office referrals. Waylon has shown respect all day! He has turned off his voice every time I have asked. He has set a good example to his classmates on how to be respectful. Camden Carlton was nominated by Mrs. Rank. After lunch, there were several students leaving the caferteria and were loud in the hallway going out to recess. Camden walked down the hallway giving everyone the quiet signal while others were talking. Camden showed great respect for everyone who was learning in the nearby classrooms and the adults who asked the students to be quiet in the hallway.
